Oklahoma's celebration of its 100 years of statehood is the ideal time to learn more about the heritage, culture and history of this great state. Following is a list of speakers, programs and activities available to schools, communities and organizations. If you’re interested in participating, contact the representative listed. Some activities are free; others charge a fee.
Centennial Collage Project
Let your creative view of Oklahoma have full rein and enter this annual competition hosted by Hideaway Pizza. For groups, classes or individuals. Grade school, high school and adult categories. Winners earn cash prizes and works are displayed at Hideaway Restaurants around the state.

Chautauqua Series on Oklahoma
The Centennial Chautauqua tours humanities scholars presenting first- person characterizations of historic figures during weeklong tent shows each summer. In 2006 and 2007, the Centennial Chautauqua, a collaborative effort of the Arts & Humanities Council of Tulsa and the Oklahoma Humanities Council, will celebrate Oklahoma history by presenting characters that reflect important aspects of our state's culture. The 2006 Centennial Chautauqua will feature Woody Guthrie, Marquis James, Belle Starr, Carrie Nation and Bill Tilghman and will take place in Enid, Tulsa and Tishomingo in June 2006.

This group will write an original play or musical about an Oklahoma individual, event or community and assist with the production. There will be a fee charged.

Oklahoma Reads Oklahoma
The Centennial is the time to read the books everyone is talking about. Oklahoma Reads Oklahoma is an annual program that gives Oklahomans the opportunity to select, read and discuss one book about Oklahoma. Now is the time to read and discuss the selection for 2006; free discussion guides are available online. Then, plan to vote in the fall for the 2007 selection. This is a great activity for clubs, organizations or any group of Oklahomans who love to read.

Uncrowned Queens of Oklahoma
The UQI project collects, preserves and disseminates the stories of Oklahoma's African American women community builders. Individuals across Oklahoma can submit biographies and photos of their "Queens" at www.uncrownedqueens.com where they will be added to the Uncrowned Queens digital techno-pedia available for study world wide. See the book Uncrowned Queens: African American Women Community Builders, Oklahoma 1907-2007.

Witness Tree Project
The purpose of this project is to identify trees that “witnessed” Oklahoma statehood in 1907 or were planted by Oklahoma settlers. Eligible trees must be over 100 years of age and stand within the state boundaries. Each Witness Tree will be registered and the owner will receive a certificate of registration. Stories about the Witness Trees will be compiled and published in a booklet.

Pawnee Bill
Wayne Spears has portrayed Pawnee Bill, Gordon Lillie, in the Pawnee Bill’s Wild West Show for the past 12 years. Wayne travels to fairs, parades, and any living character performances to talk about the background and history of Pawnee Bill in Oklahoma. He dresses authentically and has taken the costume and background information from the original route books and programs of the original Wild West Show. Wayne travels with his leopard appaloosa trick horse that is popular among kids of all ages. There is a fee for his performance.

Okii Taiko
Okii Taiko is an amateur, community based group that plays authentic Japanese Taiko drums throughout the Oklahoma City area. The group is composed of Japanese citizens of Oklahoma who are proud to demonstrate their culture.

Wings of the Centennial: the FAA's last DC-3, N34
The FAA will bring this Oklahoma built airplane to your local airport for a one-day visit.. Take a hands on tour and learn about the DC-3, its duties for the FAA and it roll in Oklahoma Aviation. Openings are still available starting July 1, 2007 through the end of the year.
